Silver Award Thurrock SSP

We have been a bronze member of Thurrock SSP for the past2 years, however this year I have increased the subscription to silver due to the need of the school. For this they provide an AST PE teacher for 7 hours a week to work alongside our class teachers to teach PE( I observed this as an issue). They will also be helping us to create a new curriculum and curriculum overview of PE moving away from dependence on the Val Sabbin scheme. This has all been arranged and the team teaching will start from the first week back in January. The partnership also offers us the chance to take part in numerous competitions, this year we have already entered or taken part in are, a dodgeball, badminton, tennis, indoor and outdoor athletics, golf and rounders. New events are being added all of the time.

New PE Shed

The former PE shed had long been a problem at the school, as it was too small for the job that is required. This resulted in the shed getting messy and untidy as well as lots of equipment being stored in different places. I have ordered, received fitted and organised  a new shed to fit better into the space allocated. I have also taken the chance to show all of the members of staff the new shed and how it is set up and organised. The use of the shed will then be monitored closely to ensure that all equipment is being used and stored properly. What was clear from the organisation  of the shed was that there was a huge amount of resources that had not been used over a large period of time. This was also pointed out to all members of staff to ensure that we are making the most of all of the resources at our disposal.

School Clubs

All of the after school clubs at the school are free to the children to give them a chance to access sports and activities that they would not normally get access to. This funding used to come from the schools Pupil premium, it will now come from the PE premium allowing us to offer new opportunities through the pupil premium.

The table below shows the clubs that are scheduled to run in the Spring term. Sailing will also be added to this list for the Summer term when the weather is appropriate.

Football Leagues

We are entered into the Central B league and cup for this academic year, we have currently played 6 games winning 4 and losing 2. We are doing well in the league and we are now able to provide extra dates and play more through all weathers due to the new surface on our playing field. The lines for this field are scheduled to be completed later this month and have already been budgeted for.
