Sport is a vital aspect of life at Chadwell St. Mary Primary.
Over the course of an academic year, each child will have the opportunity to satisfy the statutory requirements of the 2014 National Curriculum for Physical Education.
Having identified that swimming is a particular area of need for many of our pupils we have increased professional tuition so that children have double the number of lessons that were previously offered. Children swim in Years 4 and 5.
Of the Year 4 class the majority of children were non-swimmers and some of the children had never been in a swimming pool. Now, they all have the confidence to get into the pool and float. The majority of the class are able to swim at least 12.5 metres, with good technique, both on their front and back.
The percentage of children leaving Chadwell St. Mary in 2017-2018 being able to swim, use a range of different strokes and perform safe self water rescues was 57%.
