School Council

We are proud to have a school council at Chadwell St Mary Primary. Each class has two representatives on the council that put forward the views of the children they represent. The school council's views are used to help shape the day-to-day life at our school.

What did our school council do in 2014/15?

  • Visited the Civic Offices and met with the Mayor to learn about Democracy
  • Donated our harvest festival food to Thurrock Foodback and signed us up to be voucher givers so that we can help our community
  • Carried out a questionnaire to find out what pupils think in school
  • Talked with all pupils about our rewards and sanctions in school to help the governors update our behaviour policy
  • Decided on the best way to spend £1,000 of the school fund to improve our school- they bought new dictionaries
  • Thanked the Wellbeing Day contributors on behalf of the school, who came to our school to help us improve our health
  • Meeting with the Governors to evaluate aspects of our school and help us plan for 2015/16
  • Welcoming new families to school who are getting ready to join us in Reception in September
  • Carrying out a marking and feedback analysis to determine how teachers can use marking and feedback to support children to improve

In 2015/16 the school council will be:

  • Working with staff to create and publish a Chadwell Learning Charter
  • Working with the new PTA to allocate funding to school improvement priorities
  • Leading the harvest donation to Thurrock Foodbank
  • Organise whole-school charity events
  • Working with the governors to evaluate the school
  • Sharing the views and ideas of their classmates
  • Working with the governors to make sure we are welcoming to parents and give them opportunities to work with school
