Our school is a happy, welcoming place. Although the original school was opened more than a century ago we are very much a modern school. We are ambitious for our pupils and know that the experiences they have at school will shape their futures. All our staff, governors and pupils are involved in school improvement- we all have a role to play. Our core values of Perseverance, Equality, Self-responsibility and Safety- were developed by our stakeholders and underpin the daily life in school.
Our school is unique in many ways- we grow our own vegetables and serve them for lunch, we have an 'enchanted' fairy garden, we invest significantly in giving pupils exciting experiences which form the backbone of our learning in the classroom. We are part of the Thurrock Trailblazer Arts programme with the Royal opera House. Our new library facility encourages children to enjoy reading- enhancing their vocabulary and writing. We have developed our own maths curriculum- with 90% of our Year 6 pupils meeting the national expectation in 2016- well above the national average.
Staff are committed to giving all pupils the absolute best education. Part of this is ensuring that our staff have opportunities to grow and develop, with moderation roles with the Local Authority and chances to lead key projects in our school and across schools.
In 2016 we joined the South West Essex Community Education trust (SWECET). We are proud to be associated with William Edwards School, Deneholm Primary, Stifford Clays Primary and Marshalls Park School. The pupils and staff are benefitting from opportunities to work across schools, sharing what we do well and learning from our colleagues.
